Today’s meeting fills me with great joy. Reflecting on the day two years ago when the New Philosophical Society was founded, it has already been two years. Our work has yielded certain achievements. After holding this annual conference this year, I am confident that things will improve even further. Theoretical work is of paramount importance. Although the Chinese revolution has been underway for many years, theoretical activities remain severely underdeveloped, which is a major shortcoming. It must be understood that without elevating revolutionary theory, victory in the revolution is simply impossible. In the past, we paid far too little attention to this aspect; henceforth, we should intensify our efforts in theoretical research. Present-day conditions are much better than they were previously, and we now have gathered here many cultural workers and philosophers. We must acknowledge that our current level of theoretical understanding remains quite low—indeed, the nation’s overall theoretical standard is still very low. Only by collectively shouldering the responsibility to overcome this situation can we make progress. We call upon the entire country to exert greater effort in this regard, beginning with those in Yan’an. Following the conclusion of this conference, the future of the New Philosophical Society looks bright.
