Urgent Statement
(June 3, 1938)

We have just learned from the Central News Agency’s Chongqing dispatch that at its 14th regular meeting convened at 8 a.m. on the 3rd, the Supervisory Committee of the Chinese Kuomintang passed a resolution to restore the party membership of 26 persons, including Chen Qiyuan and others, among whose names are listed Zhou Enlai, Lin Zuhan, Wu Yuzhang, Mao Zedong, Dong Biwu, Deng Yingchao, and Ye Jianying. We wish to state that we are members of the Chinese Communist Party. Although the two parties, the Kuomintang and the Communist Party, are already cooperating politically, the question of whether to restore the organizational relationship of cooperation between the two parties as it was in the 13th year of the Republic has not yet been settled through consultation. Moreover, regarding the restoration of our Kuomintang party membership, no prior notification was given to our Party Central Committee or to us, nor were our views solicited. We therefore solemnly declare: As concerns that part of the resolution of the Central Supervisory Committee of the Chinese Kuomintang which relates to the seven of us, we truly cannot recognize it.

Jointly issued by
Zhou Enlai, Lin Zuhan, Wu Yuzhang, Mao Zedong
Dong Biwu, Deng Yingchao, Ye Jianying
