Letter of Introduction Written for the Anti-Japanese War Literary and Art Work Troupe[1]

(April 1938)

To Leading Comrades at All Levels of the Eighth Route Army:

Comrades Liu Baiyu and others of the Anti-Japanese War Literary and Art Work Troupe are now proceeding to the front for work. It is hoped that you will provide them with full support and assistance, and extend every convenience.

With salutations!

Mao Zedong

[1] In late April 1938, Mao Zedong met with Ouyang Shanzun, Wang Yang, Jin Zhaoye, Lin Shan, and Liu Baiyu, and agreed that they should form a group to work at the front. On the spot, Mao Zedong named their group the "Anti-Japanese War Literary and Art Work Troupe" and wrote this letter of introduction.
