Conversation with Bethune[1]

(April 1938)

Your idea is very good. The front line is in great need of doctors with such excellent medical skills as yours.

The front line is very dangerous, with heavy tasks, poor conditions, and harsh living. Please take care of your health.

[1] When Bethune was passing through Yan'an on his way to the Shanxi-Chahar-Hebei Border Region, Mao Zedong received him in a cave dwelling on Fenghuang Mountain. This is part of Mao Zedong's conversation with Bethune upon learning that Bethune had requested to go and work on the anti-Japanese front line.
