Inscription for the Overseas Chinese Journalists’ Corps[1]

(March 18, 1938)

All comrades among the overseas Chinese should unite properly, aid the motherland, and defeat the Japanese aggressors. The Communist Party cares for the overseas Chinese compatriots and is willing to establish an anti-Japanese united front with all overseas Chinese compatriots.

Mao Zedong

[1] In February 1938, the military and civilian population of Yan’an welcomed a team of overseas Chinese journalists from Southeast Asia—the “Nanyang Overseas Chinese Battlefield Correspondents’ Corps” (abbreviated as the “Journalists’ Corps”). The leader of the Journalists’ Corps was Gu Junying, also known as Gu Fangzhi, originally from Yongchun County, Fujian Province. In March 1938, Mao Zedong wrote this inscription for them in Yan’an, the sacred revolutionary base.
