Talk with Xu Guangda[1]

(January 1938)

You are all foreign-returned intellectuals who have drunk foreign ink in Lenin’s homeland, and you are learned! The Central Committee welcomes you back. Welcome back to participate in the great War of Resistance Against Japan. Our Party and our army have already passed through the most difficult moments and have developed in the War of Resistance Against Japan, and will develop greatly in the future—we need talented people! The more cadres like you, the better! We hope that after you return, you will play your role well.

[1] Mao Zedong received Xu Guangda and a group of cadres who had returned from the Soviet Union in a cave dwelling in Yan’an. This is part of Mao Zedong’s talk with Xu Guangda after hearing about Xu Guangda’s work and studies in the Soviet Union.
