Inscription for the January 28th Movement Assembly Held by the Anti-Japanese Military and Political University[1]

(January 28, 1938)

The entire Chinese people unite, strive with effort, advance in unison, and will surely be able to drive Japanese imperialism out of China.

[1] On January 28, 1938, the sixth anniversary of the Songhu Resistance War, the Anti-Japanese Military and Political University held a commemorative assembly for the January 28th Movement. Following instructions from Education Director Luo Ruiqing, Liu Yalou reported the preparations for the commemorative assembly to Mao Zedong and invited him to speak. Mao Zedong said: "I won't give a speech, let me write a few words instead." He then took up his brush and wrote the inscription: "The entire Chinese people unite, strive with effort, advance in unison, and will surely be able to drive Japanese imperialism out of China."
