(October 2, 1937)

Under no circumstances should the guerrilla units in the south be concentrated. In his approach in Jiangxi, Xiang fell into the Guomindang’s trap.[2]

[1] This is the main content of Mao Zedong’s telegram to Bo Gu (Qin Bangxian) and Ye Jianying concerning ordering Xiang Ying to come to the Central Committee to discuss the reorganization of the southern guerrilla units.

[2] In September 1937, during negotiations with the Guomindang in Nanchang on the reorganization of the southern Red Army guerrilla units, Xiang Ying delivered a speech at the Guomindang Jiangxi Provincial Party Headquarters’ memorial week, expressing that everything would be subordinated to the Guomindang. This speech by Xiang Ying was exploited by the Guomindang and caused losses to the Party.
