To Zhou Enlai[1]

(September 25, 1937)

Our manifesto and Chiang’s talk have proclaimed the success of the united front and established the necessary foundation for the two parties to unite and save the nation. Chiang’s talk pointed out the profound significance of uniting to save the nation, confirmed the legal status of the Communist Party throughout the country, and issued the promise to “make a thorough new beginning with the people of the whole nation.” However, it still displays a spirit of self-importance and lacks self-criticism, which is regrettable. The issue henceforth is the thorough realization of the Three People’s Principles and the Ten-Point Programme put forward by the Chinese Communist Party, which is in conformity with the Three People’s Principles.
