To Zhang Yunyi[1]

(June 24, 1937)

You should frankly explain to Li Zongren and Bai Chongxi that only by competing with Chiang in terms of anti-Japanese democracy and progress can they survive and develop; if they compete with Chiang in terms of warlord policies and precedence, they will only meet with defeat. In order to expand the scope of the talks to which Chiang Kai-shek and Wang Jingwei have invited various personages by letter from Lushan, efforts should be made to urge political figures from Guangdong, Guangxi, and Hong Kong to attend as invited. The Guangxi and Hong Kong sides should launch a movement for the promotion of constitutional government.
