Speech at the Yan'an Rally Commemorating "May Thirtieth" and Welcoming the "Central Inspection Delegation"[1]
(May 30, 1937)

Today our enemy is Japan. Japan has occupied the four northeastern provinces, northern Chahar, eastern Hebei, and other places, creating disturbances everywhere, with the aim of destroying China. The central task now is to fight Japan and save China. Our welcome to the Central Inspection Delegation is also for the purpose of fighting Japan and saving China. At present, both the Kuomintang and the Communist Party feel the need to unite and jointly resist Japan to save the nation.
