Speech at the Meeting of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China[1]

(April 20, 1937)

This alliance should be broad, not tight; we should not help create an organization to constrain us. Therefore, the simpler this covenant, the better. There is no need for fixed systems like representative structures or executive committees; it is better to adopt the method of convening for discussion when matters arise.

[1] This is part of Mao Zedong's speech at the meeting of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China concerning the "Draft Program for a National United Front to Resist Foreign Aggression, Save the Nation, and Rejuvenate China" and the issue of a national alliance.
