To Ye Jianying[1]

(April 18, 1937)

Regarding the Hexi Red Army sent to Lanzhou, it is hoped that contact will be made with Gu Zhutong as soon as possible, and Zhang Wenbin will be dispatched to receive them or they will be moved to Pingliang for reception.[2]

[1] This is the main content of a telegram from Mao Zedong and Zhou Enlai to Ye Jianying.

[2] In late May, Zhang Wenbin went to the concentration camp near Kongxindun Airport in Lanzhou. After negotiations, he arranged for the more than 1,500 officers and soldiers of the Western Route Army detained there to be transferred to Xi'an. En route, at Sishilipu, they were met by the nearby Red Army, broke free from the escorting Kuomintang troops, and returned to the Soviet Area.
