Bulletin on the Domestic and International Political Situation[1]

(June 9, 1936)

At present, the international situation is such that, on the one hand, Japan is aggressively advancing against China, and on the other, there is a trend of compromise between Britain and the Soviet Union toward Japan. Chiang Kai-shek is exploiting the death of Hu Hanmin to indulge in his pipe dream of becoming president this winter, while expanding his military forces and borrowing heavily from the United States. The development of the anti-Chiang movement is undoubtedly inevitable.

Since Hu Hanmin’s death, the pro-Chiang faction member Zou Lu has gone abroad, proving that opposition to Chiang has already become a settled decision. However, recently Chen Jitang has still sent representatives to Nanjing to maneuver, suggesting that the steps taken by Guangdong and Guangxi may not be entirely consistent—Guangxi is advancing more urgently, while Guangdong is advancing more slowly. The inside story still awaits further confirmation.

Once the situation is verified, we plan to dispatch important representatives southward to establish contact and achieve mutual coordination.
