The sky is high and the clouds are thin;
I gaze until my sight can no longer follow the geese flying south.
He who has never been to the Great Wall is no true hero;
By my fingers I count twenty thousand li of journey.
Upon the Liupan Mountains rise the towering peaks,
The red flag waves in the western wind.
Today the long cord is in my hand;
When shall we bind the Azure Dragon?

 [Commentary]
  On October 2, 1935, the Red Army marched north from Tongwei. By the 6th, they had crossed the Pingliang–Guyuan highway and entered the mountainous region that night, shaking off their pursuing enemy forces. The next day, they encountered cavalry units of the Northeastern Army under Bai Fengxiang and defeated them in a single engagement; later that afternoon, they captured the Liupan Mountains.
