Inscription for the "May Thirtieth" Sports Meet[1]

(May 1933)

Temper the sinews and bones of the worker-peasant class, vanquish all enemies.

[1] The establishment of the Chinese Soviet Republic provided organizational guarantees and created favorable conditions for the development of sports in the Central Soviet Area. Amid the smoke of the counter-campaigns against "encirclement and suppression," the Chinese Soviet Republic formed a preparatory committee for the "May Thirtieth" Sports Meet, deciding to hold the first sports meet across the entire Soviet region from May 30 to June 3, 1933. This inscription was written by Mao Zedong, then Chairman of the Central Government, in the name of the Central Government, for the successful convening of the "May Thirtieth" Sports Meet.
