Proclamation Exposing the Kuomintang Reactionaries’ Scheme of Fabricating the So-Called “Announcement of Wu Hao and Others Leaving the Communist Party”[1]

(February 1932)

The Shanghai newspapers Shishi Xinbao, Shibao, and Shenbao have published a fraudulent announcement under the name of Wu Hao and others, declaring their withdrawal from the Communist Party. In fact, Comrade Wu Hao is currently serving in the Military Commission of the Soviet Central Government. Not only is there absolutely no truth to his leaving the Communist Party, but he would never have uttered the absurd and reactionary statements contained in that announcement. This is clearly a slanderous fabrication by the Kuomintang henchmen, who slaughter workers, peasants, and soldiers and sell China to imperialism.[2]

[1] This is the main content of a proclamation issued by Mao Zedong in the name of the Chairman of the Provisional Central Government of the Chinese Soviet Republic.

[2] Wu Hao was an alias of Zhou Enlai. Beginning in mid-February 1932, the Shanghai newspapers Shishi Xinbao, Shibao, and Shenbao carried for several consecutive days the so-called “Announcement of Wu Hao and Others Leaving the Communist Party,” fabricated by the Kuomintang secret service. On February 20, the Provisional Central Committee’s organ, Douzheng (Struggle), published “The Wu Hao Announcement,” pointing out that this was “a new trick of slander and vilification by the Kuomintang.”
