(July 1931)

Our principles follow Marxism-Leninism;

Political power belongs to the workers and peasants.

[1] One day in July 1931, Mao Zedong led the Red Army to Chenggang Township, Xingguo County, Jiangxi Province. The next day, guided by Old Hu, secretary of the Party branch of the township Soviet government, he surveyed the terrain in preparation for fighting the second battle of the third counter-campaign against "encirclement and suppression" in this area. At noon, they ascended Baihua Mountain, the commanding height of Chenggang Township. After surveying the terrain, Old Hu led Mao Zedong to the academy at the mountaintop. After Mao Zedong had his meal, the private school teacher invited him to write a couplet for them. Mao Zedong wrote this couplet.
