Proclamation of the Chinese Workers’ and Peasants’ Revolutionary Committee[1]

(December 1930)

The traitors Duan, Xie, Liu, Li[2] and others, staged their mutiny at Futian.
They led the Red Army to turn traitor, heedless of the great enemy before us.
Splitting the revolutionary forces, truly their crimes tower to the heavens.
Sabotaging the decisive class battle, and even spreading wild rumors.
Attacking the Provincial Soviet Government, overthrowing the worker-peasant political power.
Driving out Chairman Zeng Shan, seizing members of the Central Committee.
Carrying out support for Chiang and opposition to the Communists, opposing thorough land redistribution.
Delusionally plotting insurrectionary violence, wrecking thousands upon thousands of the Red Army.
Wanting to turn the Red areas into dark dungeons and prisons.
The AB[3] and Liquidationist cliques, turtles and tortoises linked together.
On their lips they shout revolution, in their bones they are hidden traitors.
Hoisting the red flag to rebel, making it hard for people to see through.
This is the venomous scheme of the traitor Chiang, everyone must spread propaganda about it.
This is the urgency of the struggle, the inevitability of class betrayal.
Do not panic or wonder, only unite more firmly.
Strike down the counterrevolutionary faction, and victory will be here tomorrow.

[1] This is a proclamation drafted by Mao Zedong in the name of the Chinese Workers’ and Peasants’ Revolutionary Committee in mid-to-late December 1930 to denounce the Futian Incident.
[2] Duan, Xie, Liu, Li refers to those accused at the time as the leading figures of the AB Corps: Duan Liangbi (head of the Jiangxi Provincial Action Committee), Xie Hanchang (director of the Political Department of the Red Twentieth Army), Liu Di (political commissar of the 147th Regiment of the Red Twentieth Army), and Li Bofang (secretary of the Jiangxi Provincial Committee).
[3] i.e., the AB Corps, short for the English "Anti-Bolshevik," full name "AB Anti-Red Corps," a right-wing Kuomintang organization established in Jiangxi during the Northern Expedition, founded in January 1927, with the aim of attacking the Communist Party and the Kuomintang "Left Wing." Three months after its founding, it was destroyed by the "April 2nd" Great Uprising launched by the Kuomintang "Left Wing" and the Communist Party.
