The Unprecedented Great Victory at Longgang
. . . The two brigades of the Eighteenth Division of the White army were
completely wiped out.
... We captured the enemy's division commander Zhang Huizan, and brigade
commanders Dai Yue and Wang Jiejun .
. . . We captured 5,000 weapons and took more than 9,000 prisoners .
. . . Unite the workers, peasants, and soldiers to continue our efforts to wipe
out the enemy.
To all action committees, all xian committees, all xian soviets, Party organi-
zations and soviets at every level, and all ... :
... times they undertook to suppress the revolution in a big way, and they
gradually closed in and encircled the Red region and the Red Army with a great
show of strength, our workers . . . prepared to wipe them out in one breath.
Today our First Route Army fought a fierce battle against the Fifty-second
[Brigade] ... and Wang Jiejun's brigade of the division of White Bandit Zhang
Huizan. They fought for more than five hours, and of the four regiments ... they
did not let even one escape. We captured a total of more than 5,000 rifles, 30
machine guns ... .-[Of these] battalions, the number of officers, soldiers, and
porters captured exceeded 9,000. White Bandit division commander Zhang
Huizan, and brigade commanders Dai Yue and Wang Jiejun ... were captured.
This time, with so many captured rifles, not only has the strength of the Red
Army been increased, but we can [take] a large number .... We captured Zhang
Huizan, the most faithful running dog of Chiang Kaishek and Lu Diping. For
what we have suffered during the past two years from Lu ... we [X] took [X][X]
revenge.'

MAO'S ROAD TO POWER
. . . (because we cleaned out the AB Corps) the soldiers were in very high
spirits during the fighting ... [Zhang Hui]zan said ”the Red Army is both fierce
and well disciplined." From this point of view, our plan of luring the enemy deep
... has already achieved victory in the first stage. From the second stage, all the
way to the decisive class war, ... we can achieve our goal under the condition of
hard fighting in the decisive war by the Workers' and Peasants' Red Army .
. . . exerted great efforts to suppress the revolution, it had an ambitious plan,
only ... the White bandits ... thought, moreover, that they could wipe out the
Red Army. Consequently, they laid down a grand plan of campaign, allocated
forty-four regiments of forces, divided into many different groups to crush the
Red area and to besiege the Red Army. But grand as the enemy's plan was, it
became in the end a plan to court death in the face of the Workers' and Peasants'
Red Army. We had prepared long ago to wipe them out. The first battle, which
took place today, shattered part of the enemy's general plan. The revolutionary
workers and peasants must cooperate with the Red Army and continue our
efforts. The enemy's doom is assuredly not far away. We have decided that the
White bandit troops which have always been engaged in repressing the revolu-
tion will be wiped out completely in the Red area in which the decisive class war
is being fought. Victory in the whole province, and even in the whole country, is
beginning to emerge. We hope that everyone will make an effort to participate in
the decisive war.
3. Now that the decisive class war is just beginning, continuous victory un-
doubtedly depends on the efforts of the revolutionary Workers' and Peasants'
Red Army. The Bolshevik Communist Party members, and the poor revolution-
ary workers and peasants must continue their efforts to attack the AB Corps and
the Liquidationists, oppose the Provincial Action Committee and the Provincial
Government of the AB Corps, 2 support the Provincial Action Committee and
Provincial Government under the leadership of Comrade Zeng Shan, support the
General Front Committee. We must strive to participate in the decisive war,
carry out the policy of intercepting the enemy, stopping the enemy, harassing the
enemy, raising revenue for the Red Army, helping the Red Army in its battles.
This is the guarantee of the victory of the revolution. We sincerely hope that
everyone will make great efforts!
Long live the victory of the Workers' and Peasants' Red Army Long live. , , ,

--- Notes

I. In this communique, dated December 30, "revenge" refers simply to the humiliat-
ing defeat inflicted on the enemy forces, but the revenge against Zhang Huizan was
subsequently carried much further. On January 28, 1931, he was executed by decapitation, and
his head was transported to the Gan River and floated downstream to Nanchang. There the
Guomindang leaders recovered it and used it as evidence of the cruelty of the Communists.

Futian Incident, which he regarded as animated by, or under the control of, the AB Corps.
