Order to the First Front Army of
the Red Army to Attack Gaoan
(October 19, 1930, 7:00 P.M., at General Headquarters
beneath Bamboo Hill outside the town of Xiajiang)
I. The enemy situation is as before, and it is reported that Gaoan is under the
domination of Dai Yue's brigade.
2. Given the Front Army's task of directly occupying the Nanchang-Jiujiang
Railroad and then awaiting the opportunity to seize Jiujiang and Nanchang, the
plan for the first step is to destroy the enemy presently in Gaoan, and then to
occupy it.
3. The Third Army Group should complete all preparations by the 19th of
this month, set out on the 20th from its present location, and go to the right of the
line of Qingjiang, Qushuiqiao, Luojia, Heshujia, Huangshagang, and
Lianglukou. The journey is to take place over a period of five days, and the town
of Gaoan must be occupied on the 24th. Having accomplished this, a close watch
must be kept in the direction of Nanchang and Fengxin.
4. The Fourth Army of the First Army Group should set out tomorrow (the
20th) on a five days' journey by way of Renhe, Tiangang, Yongfang, Hamojie,
Tuohujie, Dapingjie, Shanqian, and Miaoqian to the line along Gongmiao,
Taiyangyu, Guanzigang, Shanghupu, and Zhangjiadu to help the Third Army
Group destroy the enemy in Gaoan. If there is no trace of the enemy in Gaoan,
then they are to be stationed along the line of Wulipei and Qiliqiao to await
further orders. The Third Army should set out on the 21st for a journey of
five days by way of Sixi, Dongxibian, Luofang, Wupingyu, Taiheyu, Liyu,
Quangang, Qianjialing, Shangxiafang, Longcun, Lujiadian, Guantangfang,
Taojia, Luojia, Huibu, and Shinaoyu to Huangpoqiao, stop and await further
orders. The said army must dispatch a vanguard tomorrow (the 20th) to destroy the enemy remaining in Dongxibian and Luofang. Along the way they
must pay attention to keeping a close watch to the left in the direction of
Yuanzhou.
The Twelfth Army, along with the Workers' and Peasants' Revolutionary
Committee, the Provincial Soviet government, and General Headquarters and its
directly attached units should set out on the 21st for a five-day journey by way of
Guantian, Tankou, Wangjiadian, Yaoxijie, Huangtujie, Luogang, Zhanxi,

Yinggangling, Taiyangyu, Wulichen, and Shanghupu to Xiaojia, stop, and
station themselves in the area to the rear of the temple.
5. Upon arrival on the 22nd at the line along Qingjiang, Dapingjie,
Huangtujie, and Luofangyu, each route must immediately establish contact with
General Headquarters. Along the way they must also maintain contact with each
other.
6. During the march our position is that of General Headquarters.
Addendum:
1. Each unit (with the exception of the Second Army) is to make its own
detailed plans for the march and they are to be reported together.
2. General Headquarters will encamp on the 21st near Huangjiadian, on the
22nd at Huangtujie, on the 23rd near Zhanxi, on the 24th at Wulichen, and on the
25th at the rear of the temple at Xiaogongmiao.
3. Everyone must carry enough rice for two days.
4. Along the way, all units must pay attention to raising funds and strictly
maintaining discipline.
5. Upon arriving at the town of Gaoan, the Third Army Group is to be
stationed in the northeast outskirts of the city, the First Army Group in the
southwest. It is best not to station troops within the town.
