1) Ji'an remains under the occupation of Deng Ying's forces. Ma Kun's
battalion is still in Ganzhou and has not arrived in Ji'an.
2) This Army Group has decided to launch a general assault on the city of
Ji'an at dawn on the 4th. It is scheduled to advance on the line of Baizitang,
Sanjiaotang, and Huajia tomorrow (the 3rd), finish preparations, and wait for
orders to attack the city of Ji'an. (Orders to attack and supplementary maps will
be issued separately tomorrow.)
3) The Fourth Army should complete its departure from here (Futian) tomorrow morning at 6:00 o'clock, pass through Qinghu, Jiekaoxie, Qishanmiao,
Huangluping, Cangkeng, Xin'an, Shentang, Zhoujiashan, and Sanheping, and
take up quarters in the vicinity of Baizitang. Upon arrival at the place of encampment, officers should immediately be dispatched to reconnoiter the terrain near
the Luozi Mountains outside the north gate of the city of Ji'an and prepare for
the attack on the morning of the 4th.
4) The Twentieth Army should set out tomorrow morning from its current
location (Nanyuan, also known as Linyuan), and advance toward the area of
Hujia, Sanjiaotang, and Huajia to set up camp. Officers must be sent to reconnoiter the terrain on the line of the Zhenjun Mountains and the Tianhua Mountains
west of the city of Ji'an, and prepare for the attack on the morning of the 4th.
5) The Third Column of the Third Army and the units directly attached to the
General Headquarters should set off tomorrow morning (arising at 4:30) from
here (Futian) at 5:30, pass through Junziting, Huyuan, Pantang, Jiangzishang,
Fenggangqiao, and Tongshuping, and arrive near the front of the mountains to
make camp (the place of encampment is to be designated by the adjutants of this
Headquarters). The Third Column of the Third Army should also dispatch personnel to reconnoiter the terrain between the Tianhua Mountains and the

in Mao Zedong junshi wenji, Vol. 1, pp. 171-72, under the title "Order for the First Army
Group to Stand By to Attack Ji'an," where it is indicated that the text is reproduced from
the original document in the Party archives. The two versions are virtually identical except
that the names of the officers listed in this one before the signatures of Zhu and Mao are
omitted from the other text.

6) The army headquarters of the Third Army and the First Column should
hasten tomorrow (the 3rd) to encamp in the vicinity of Mawugang in front of
Tongshuping, and prepare for the attack on the morning of the 4th.
7) The Twelfth Army should advance towards the Shen'gang Mountains tomorrow morning, watch for an opportunity to encamp, and prepare to attack
towards the Shen'gang Mountains on the morning of the 4th. (Having accomplished this they are to attack the south gate along the river.)
8) During the advance, we shall be with the vanguard of the general headquarters.

Addendum:
1) After arriving at the place of encampment tomorrow, each unit must immediately prepare equipment for attacking the city.
2) After reconnoitering the terrain, each unit must sketch a rough map and
submit it to headquarters.
3) Each unit must effectively cut the lines of communication.
4) Tomorrow each unit must find its own guides.
