Order of the First Army Group of the
Red Army to Leave Yichun, Go to Futian,
and Concentrate Its Forces There
(September 29, 1930, 6 P.M., at Yichun)
1. The Hunan enemy is still in the area of Laoguan, Liling, and Huangtuling,
and the Dai brigade of the Jiangxi enemy1 is already retreating from Wanzai
toward Nanchang. There are reports that the troops of Deng Ying are being
moved from Ji'an back to Nanchang, that the town of Ji'an is being defended by
the battalion of Ma Kun moved there from Ganzhou, 2 and that one of the guards
regiments near Nanchang has been sent to Ji'an. We are continuing to investigate
whether or not this is true.
2. In accordance with the original plan, this army group (minus the Twelfth
and Twentieth Armies) is to leave here (Yichun Town) tomorrow (the 30th), and
advance past Fenyi toward Ji'an, with the intention of reaching the vicinity of the
town of Fenyi (80 li) on the 30th, of reaching the vicinity of Lukou (60 li) on
October 1, and of reaching the vicinity of Futian (55 li) on the 2nd, to assemble
there.
3. The Fourth Army should have completed its departure from its present
location (Xiapu) by five o'clock tomorrow morning, advance through Binjiang
to Fenyi, and encamp before the town of Fenyi.
General Headquarters, the General Political Department, and the units directly
under them, following after the Revolutionary Military Commission, should get
up tomorrow morning at 3:30, assemble at 4:30 on the main road, and start off in
this order, directly after the advancing Fourth Army.
The Third Army (minus one column), should set out tomorrow morning at

2. Deng Ying was at this time the commander of the Thirteenth Division of the
Nationalist army, and Ma Kun was the commander of the Thirty-fourth Brigade of the
Twelfth Division of the Nineteenth Route Army. Apart from these bare facts, little is
known about either of these men.

five o'clock, immediately after the units directly under the General Headquar-ters, reach Fenyi, and encamp in the vicinity.
4. The Third Army should send a force of column strength to Cihua to meet
the personnel coming from the Yangzi Bureau of the Chinese Communist Party,
and the returning company that the Third Army had previously sent to Liuyang
to escort the wounded. After they meet, they should come quickly to the vicinity
of Futian, and all return to their units.
5. After setting out, we shall be traveling with the General Headquarters.
Addendum:
1. Along the way, all units should listen for news of the enemy's dispositions.
2. The location of all encampments along the way shall be determined by
Commander Lin Biao of the Fourth Army.
3. After the advance units reach Futian, they should mount a surprise attack
and take the city of Ji'an when the opportunity offers.
