(August 29, 1930, 8:00 P.M.,
at Xinqiao General Headquarters)

1. According to reliable reports, yesterday and today the enemy's main forces
have been moving in succession toward Yijiawan, and it appears that they have
in mind to use a small portion of their forces to pin down our army by relying on
the battlefield fortifications in the area of Houzishi, Shimapu, Litang, Huangtuling, and Wumeiling in the vicinity of Changsha, and have their main forces
leave Yijiawan by railway and attack our army from the flank.
2. It has been decided that the Front Army should first wipe out the enemy
forces in Yijiawan tomorrow (the 30th), and take advantage of the victory to
make a forceful surprise attack on Changsha.
The Third Army Group is hereby ordered to use all its strength to attack the
enemy forces in Yijiawan tomorrow. After succeeding in this, it should immediately dispatch a portion of its forces to attack and advance toward Changsha
along the motor road. The remaining portion of its forces should attack the
enemy's strongholds and advance towards Shimapu and Huangtuling by way of
Tianxinqiao, Yangjiachong and Laodian. After taking them, its main forces must
concentrate in the Huangtuling area and have one unit enter the city through the
southern outskirts to pursue and destroy the remnants of the enemy.
3. The Twelfth Army of the First Army Group is hereby ordered to take a
short cut and arrive near Datuopu before 7:00 A.M. tomorrow to intercept the
routed enemy from Yijiawan (if the fighting in Yijiawan has not come to an end,
then apart from posting one unit as sentries in the direction of Changsha, this
army's main forces should immediately assist the Third Army Group in destroying the enemy in Yijiawan). After accomplishing this task it should rapidly
advance to attack the enemy in Wumeiling and Xiaowumen by way of Linjiazui,
Dongjingpu, and Guitang. After accomplishing this it should concentrate its
troops around the Wumeiling area and await further orders.

Our source for this order is Jiangxi dangshi ziliao, Vol. 6, pp. 103-104.
The Fourth Army should leave its present location (Dongsigang) before 7:00
A.M. tomorrow, take a short cut, advance to the Zhoujiati and Zhongjiawan line,
and then stop and post guards in the direction of Changsha. When the Third
Army Group and the Twelfth Army advance toward Changsha, said army should
rapidly attack and advance along Tianjiling and Xujiachong towards Erliting and
Jingwumen in front of Litang Lake. After accomplishing this, apart from using
one unit to leave through the north gate at Xinhe to cut off the enemy's path of
retreat, it should mass its main forces near Erliting.
The Third Army shall constitute the general reserve force, and it should
dispatch one column at 3:30 tomorrow morning to advance to Baitianpu following General Headquarters by way of the main road of Tiaomajian. The rest
should set out before 7:00, follow General Headquarters, arrive near Baitianpu,
and await further orders.
4. During the attack on Yijiawan, we and the general reserve forces will be
near Baitianpu, and during the attack on Changsha we will be on the main road
between Baitianpu and Dongjingpu.
Attention:
1) If the enemy forces we eliminated at Yijiawan were not their main forces,
then the Third Army Group should only advance as far as the Shipailing and
Shirenchong line, the Twelfth Army as far as the Dongjingpu and Yanziling line,
and the Fourth Army only as far as the Xujiachong line. General Headquarters
and the general reserve forces will then stop at places on the main Longjiawan
road and await further orders.
2) As for the large baggage of General Headquarters, the Twelfth Army
(except for a small number of this army's cooking utensils that can go along with
it), and the Third Army, the Third Army should use its discretion to assign troops
to protect it. They are to stop tomorrow after dawn 10 li behind the general
reserve forces, and are to be under the command of Fan Shude.
