Below the hill our banners are in sight;
On the hilltops our bugles blow.
The foe surround us ring on ring,
But we stand steadfast, unshaken.
Our strong defenses are already built,
And our wills unite like a fortress.
On Huangyangjie the cannons roar,
Announcing the enemy flees into the night.

[Explanation]
In August 1928, Mao Zedong led the Third Battalion of the 31st Red Army Regiment to Guidong to meet the 28th Red Army Regiment. The Hunan enemy forces took the opportunity to invade the Jinggangshan base area. Our army repelled the enemy by relying on the natural barrier of Huangyangjie. This poem was written after the defensive battle, depicting the combat scene.

[Notes]
(1) In sight: before one's eyes.
(2) Flees into the night: escapes under cover of darkness.
