Telegram of September 27, I: To all newspapers in Changsha for transmission to all armed comrades in Changsha: Since the traitorous Chiang rebelled, he has dispatched large numbers of running dogs to spread rumors and stir up trouble, in an attempt to sow discord among the revolutionary forces. It is rumored that the garrison troops in Changsha, unfortunately misled by the provocations of the reactionaries, actually raided Party headquarters at all levels and peasant and workers’ organizations on Horse Day, and massacred over ten responsible comrades of various organs. Such an act not only fundamentally undermines the policy on peasants and workers, but also treats the government with contempt and disrupts the rear of the Northern Expedition. Our association, upon hearing this news, is deeply grieved. Among the people, workers and peasant comrades are all beloved brothers on the revolutionary front; between them there is absolutely no enmity whatsoever. Even if there were misunderstandings, they should have sought instructions from the government and calmly sought explanations. Now, to burn the beanstalks to cook the beans—how is this different from aiding the enemy to kill friends! Upon self-reflection, one should feel dismayed. We still hope that you will learn from past errors to avoid future ones, calmly await a resolution by the National Government, and must not repeat mistakes again and again, disgracing your good name and causing pain to those dear to you and joy to the enemy! We respectfully send this telegram to convey our thoughts, with boundless concern.

Telegram II: To Commander-in-Chief Tang of Xiping: Comrade, your earnest and concrete adherence to the Premier’s doctrines and your firm support of the Premier’s policies have long been evident to all the revolutionary people. The recent telegrams published in the press, in which you, Comrade, uphold the Three Great Policies, have especially won the boundless admiration of the people nationwide! Unexpectedly, the garrison troops in Changsha, misled by the provocations of the reactionaries, actually raided Party headquarters at all levels and peasant and workers’ organizations on Horse Day, disarmed the workers’ pickets and the suburban peasant associations, and massacred over ten comrades of various organs. Such an act not only fundamentally undermines the policy on peasants and workers, but also directly disrupts the rear of the Northern Expedition. Our association, upon hearing this news, is extremely shocked and grieved! As you, Comrade, are the Chairman of the Hunan Provincial Government, we request that you immediately send a telegram to the Hunan Provincial Government to promptly disclose the true facts of the incident and prudently handle the aftermath. This is our most earnest hope!

Telegram III: To the Hunan Provincial Government: After the traitorous Chiang rebelled, he dispatched large numbers of running dogs to fabricate all kinds of rumors to sow discord among the revolutionary forces. It is rumored that the garrison troops in Changsha, unfortunately misled by provocations, actually raided Party headquarters at all levels and peasant and workers’ organizations on Horse Day, and disarmed the workers’ pickets and the suburban peasant self-defense forces. Hearing this evil news from afar, we are overcome with grief and indignation! Telegram V: To Director Li of the Political Department of the 11th Division of the Fourth Army, Zhumadian: Your telegram of the 19th has been received. Henceforth, the clearing of Henan and the direct assault on Youyan will be matters accomplished in the blink of an eye. We respectfully send this telegram to offer congratulations, and hope that you will continue your efforts to thoroughly eliminate the traitorous Feng and all local tyrants and evil gentry who exploit and oppress the peasants, so as to cleanse the filth of the North and liberate the people of Youyan. Our association pledges to lead all the peasants of the entire league to serve unanimously as the rear guard of all our officers and soldiers.
