Letter to Li Lisan and Others[1]

(September 1922)

The conditions for victory in the strike depend first and foremost on the solid unity and strong fighting will of the worker masses, and at the same time it is necessary to win the sympathy and support of public opinion. Therefore, it is essential to apply the principle that "an army burning with righteous indignation is bound to win," and to put forward sorrowful yet stirring slogans.

[1] This is the main content of a letter Mao Zedong sent from Changsha to Li Lisan and others on the eve of the strike by the workers of the Anyuan coal mine and railway.
