A Letter to Ouyang Zhenyuan[1]

(August 7, 1922)

I have a matter to discuss with you. I hope you will kindly come to Qingshuitang for a talk[3] at four o’clock in the afternoon on Tuesday the 7th of this week[2].

[1] Ouyang Zhenyuan, a former student of the Provincial Third Normal School, was teaching in Changsha at the time.

[2] According to the *One Hundred Year Calendar*, August 8, 1922, was a Tuesday.

[3] Comrade Chen Duxiu, Chairman of the Central Executive Committee of the Communist Party of China, in response to a request by Mao Zedong, Secretary of the CPC Hunan District Committee, dispatched Communist Party member Zhang Qiuren to Hunan for work. Mao Zedong decided to send Zhang Qiuren to the Third Normal School in Hengyang to strengthen the leadership work there. Mao Zedong wrote this letter to discuss with Ouyang Zhenyuan the matter of escorting Zhang Qiuren to Hengyang.
