Business Regulations (1920)
1. This Society’s153 business falls under the following three headings: (1) Books; (2)
Magazines; (3) Daily newspapers.

3. The price of the books, newspapers, and magazines we carry will be no higher
than that of the original publishers, and may be lower, as long as we manage to
cover the shipping and handling costs.
4. Book Society transactions are in silver dollars.
5. Purchases are in cash only. Credit may be given only to those who have good
credit and are backed by a credit guarantor. Purchases made on credit have to
be paid in full within a month.
6. Outstanding accounts will be closed on the last day of each month, bills will be
delivered the first day of the following month, and someone will be sent to collect
payment on the third. Bills are to be settled every month. No exceptions will be
made for anyone.
7. Any schools or organizations in other xian that are willing to act as agents for
the distribution of our Society’s books and periodicals may come in (or write to
us) for the Distribution Guidelines and sign an agreement to be a distributor. In
order to promote the use of teaching materials in colloquial Chinese, anyone in
another xian who wants to conduct primary school teaching using textbooks in
colloquial Chinese may ask us to place orders for him. We will order immediately
as requested and will pack and mail the order free of charge.


General Regulations for Branch Offices (1920)
According to Article 5 of the Outline of the Organization of the Cultural Book
Society, “This Society will establish its general office in the provincial capital and will
have branches in every xian.” In order to disseminate our new publications in every
xian throughout the province, we encourage comrades in all xian to establish branch
stores in the xian capitals and market towns (wherever there is a post office) to sell
the new publications carried by this Book Society. The branch stores will attach their
local place-names to that of the Cultural Book Society (for example, Pingjiang Cultural
Book Society, Liuxi Cultural Book Society). Procedures will be as indicated below:
