238 This title appears here as Dongde xin jiaoshou, which might be rendered as “New Teachings
on Motion,” but is not good Chinese, and does not really mean anything. The editors of the Wengao
acknowledge as much by adding a note reading “Like this in the original document.” (See p. 542, note 2.)
The master list of books sold by the Cultural Book Society contains the item Dongwu xin jiaoshou (New
Teachings about Animals, or The New Zoology), and there can be little doubt that dongde (of motion),
both here and in the Second Report of the Society, dated April 1921, which will appear in Volume II of
this edition, is a misprint for dongwu (animal). We have therefore made the necessary emendation.

239 This book was by Kang Baozhong.

einzeln fallend aus der dunklen Wolke, die liber den Menschen hangt; sie verkiindigen, dass der Blitz
