New Youth, Volume 7, Number 1

(December 1, 1919)

Stirred by the May Fourth Movement, a considerable number of people in Changsha have indeed turned toward the new tide. Moreover, due to the repeated devastation inflicted by the warlord faction in recent years, this splendid place of Changsha has often been left utterly lifeless. As a result, all those with a modicum of knowledge—the faculty, staff, and students of the various schools—cannot but feel deep and bitter hatred. They feel all the more that such issues as "social reconstruction," "ideological renovation," "women's liberation," and "national self-determination" brook not the slightest delay.
