Letter to the Editorial Board

Dear Comrade Editor!

Allow us to publish in the pages of your newspaper our response to many persons who from the far north, west, east and other places have inquired of us concerning the "campaign" of the liquidators against the "insurance" activist comrade X.

The liquidators have accused him of double-dealing: he served both the employers and the workers 253.

How does an organization conduct itself in the face of such accusations?

It assembles representatives of various institutions serving the workers' movement and entrusts them with investigating the matter. This is precisely what was done. In No. 12 of "For Truth" (of October 17) there was published the conclusion of a commission composed of representatives from five institutions (1. the editorial board of "Pravda"; 2. the editorial board of "Enlightenment"; 3. the editorial board of the Polish Marxist organ; 4. the group of six s.-d. deputies in the State Duma; 5. the chairman of the Union of Metalworkers)*.

The commission established:
- - that the assertion of the liquidators "does not correspond to the truth";
- - that X., having abandoned service with the employers, thereby fulfilled his duty.

On the eve of this (No. 11 of "For Truth" of October 16), A. Vitimsky set forth in detail that X. was "guilty" only of departing from service with the employers to enter service in the workers' movement. Vitimsky added that the names of the liquidators, who were secretaries of employers' organs, had been reported to the secretary of "For Truth"**.

What was the reply of the liquidators? They did not even think of contesting either Vitimsky's statement or the fact of X.'s departure from service with the employers.

They did not even think to convene any commission of "their own" from "their" group of seven, from any trade union or "guiding institution" of Latvians, Jews, or Caucasians.

Nothing of the sort!

Men devoted to the organization convene a commission, investigate the matter, render decisions.

Independent of the workers' organizations, liberal scribblers from the "New Workers' (??) Newspaper" continue their campaign of the most vile lies and slander!! They are deceiving simpletons or the ignorant, calling "double-dealing" that which
