Dear colleagues!

I wholeheartedly welcome the newspaper and its evident improvement. Finally, the literary side is getting on its feet!

V. I. LENIN IN ZAKOPANE

Now it's the turn of the economic. It is also impossible to leave the question of subscribers "voiceless": their number must be published, otherwise it is impossible to rise from circle-ism to organization, from a private enterprise to collectivity.

I cannot pass over in silence the obvious mistake in No. 22, where, alongside the correct resolution of the Vborgites (on Buryanov), a longer and despicably-intriguing resolution of the Zurichers 309 was placed, with the editorial board's silence. The word of "Pravda" is law, its silence confuses the workers, its abstention sows doubt.

With Buryanov, one must be "wise as a serpent," and the editorial board has deviated from this wisdom. We praise him only for leaving the liquidators, certainly not for his "independence" as an individual. Here, the liquidators are right, and there is no greater danger for a politician in the struggle than to take an incorrect position.

And the Zurichers support Buryanov in an incorrect, false, and intriguing position!! And we give them a voice - why? Knowing that the Zurichers are a minority abroad!

Knowing that we cannot force all of the emigration to express themselves in "Pravda"!!

Buryanov must be made to understand and feel the falsity of his position. You left the liquidators? Good.

You proposed equality? Good.

What next? It's time to make a choice, and in intrigue (playing the pendulum) we will not support you. The liquidators are hounding you as an "independent S.D.": they are right, and we will not defend you. Here is your divine deadline, here is help for this period (silent, with speeches, etc.), but no more. Either choose (in 2-4 weeks), or no more help.

Only in this way can we act. Otherwise, in the near future (at the Vienna Congress and earlier) Buryanov's position will harm us, and we will rightly be accused of supporting an "independent."

The editorial board should take the opportunity to say that (1) the Vborgites are right, not the Zurichers; (2) that besides part of the emigration (Zurich), no one in Russia approves or will approve of "independence."

This must be done.

Best wishes and every improvement and success to the newspaper!

V. I.

P.S. In a month, Buryanov will say: the Zurichers supported me, and only the Vborgites condemned me! And we will not achieve a general, mass demonstration in favor of the Vborgites. But it is now extremely necessary.

If "free rein" and support are given to Buryanov, he will strengthen himself against us, - this would be a crime against the will of the majority of workers and against the "Marxist whole."

P.S. Could you send No. 2 of "Nasha Zarya" as soon as it comes out, for a response to L. Martov in "Prosveshchenie"?

P.P.S. Please show this letter to the newspaper's staff from the RSDLP faction.

Could you send that article by Miliukov in "Russkie Vedomosti," where he expresses his views on the tactic of disbelief in a peaceful outcome?

The missing book has been found. Insist on no abbreviations.

About the newspaper, I repeat that the improvement is enormous: a thousand greetings. (The same feedback from everywhere.) Laissez nous ecrire plus souvent l'opinion et les directives (les commandes meme) du redacteur!*
