Dear Colleague!

We have received a letter today from Kamenev stating that you informed him that peaceful relations have been restored between you and Plekhanov as a result of eliminating "misunderstandings."*

* VI (Prague) All-Russian Conference of the RSDLP. Ed.

I would very much like to know what this dream means. We had every reason to believe that the rejection of articles by Dnevnitsky and Plekhanov concerning concessions to the liquidators (for it was precisely about this that they wrote under the flag of "unity") was done quite consciously and decisively. What "misunderstandings" could there have been in this case?

Could there be new misunderstandings in this latest report?

The most recent—that is to say, literally yesterday's—lead article in *Rech'* from the July 19 issue is of enormous significance. There can be no doubt that the Kadets did everything possible (and impossible) in order to "hush up" *Zvezda* and *Pravda*. And now it has broken through! It is clear that by this they themselves have acknowledged the danger. They were unable to keep silent and suppress it. They have been driven from their position of silence. And Prokopovich and Blank in *Zaprosy Zhizni*102 echo them even more crudely, stupidly, and tearfully.

It is necessary, in my opinion, to intensify the pressure on *Rech'* precisely now, to place a series of articles against it and to inflame the struggle even more. This is necessary both in principle (for only *Zvezda* and *Pravda* conduct the campaign in the name of workers' democracy; the liquidators and *Rech'* and the "Prokopovichis" pat them approvingly on the shoulder) and in practice (for it is precisely this intensification of struggle that should revive both disputes and conversations with voters and their registration on electoral lists).

Is it not possible to learn how many are registering by districts—by streets—by professions?

It would be extremely important to encourage this with concrete examples in order to provoke competition between districts, streets, and professions.

I hope you will not refuse to convey to *Nevskaya Zvezda* as well that I absolutely demand the return of my article—a response to Blank ("Petty Tricks")—if it is not published in issue 18. I will certainly place it then in the journal. Now, when all liberals + liquidators + non-party men &* Co. have descended upon us, it would be criminal for us to remain silent.
