LENIN MISCELLANY.
We are sending a draft (individual) declaration of the international left.
We very much ask you to translate and communicate it to the leftists of Sweden and Norway, so as to promote a Verstän-
digung* with them in a businesslike manner. Send your remarks, resp. counter-draft, and obtain the same from the leftists of Scandinavia.
Beste Grüsse**.
Yours, Lenin.
And from me as well. N. Krupskaya.
We only recently learned from Alexander that we owe you more than 120 crowns, we are sending them to you, forgive us,
that we did not do this earlier.
*) Agreement.
**) Best greetings.

20.
Dear A. M.!
We were very glad about the statement of the Norwegians and your concern for the Swedes.
A joint international declaration of the left Marxists would be diabolically important!
(A statement of principle is the most important and, for the time being, the only possible thing.)
Roland-Holst, like Rakovsky (have you seen his French!
pamphlet?)*, like Trotsky, in my opinion, are all most harmful "Kautskyites" in the sense that all, in different forms, are for unity
with the opportunists, all, in different forms, prettify
opportunism, all conduct (in different ways) eclecticism instead of revolutionary Marxism.
Your criticism of the draft declaration, in my opinion, does not show
(if
I am not mistaken) serious disagreements between us.
I consider it theoretically erroneous and practically harmful
not to distinguish between types of war.
We cannot be against national liberation wars.
You take the example of Serbia. But if the Serbs were alone against Austria, wouldn't we be f or
the Serbs?
The crux of the matter now is the struggle between the great powers for
the redivision of colonies and the subjugation of small powers.
A war of India, Persia, China, etc. with England or Rus-
sia? Wouldn't we be f or India against England etc.?
To call THIS "civil war" is inaccurate; a clear stretch.
It is extremely harmful to stretch the concept of civil war to ex-
cess, for this obscures the crux of the matter: the war of hired
workers against the capitalists of a given state*
A. Kollontai.
