32.

Dear A. M.! We received your letter and congratulate you once again on your success.

I was devilishly angry that "noble" France confiscated (a fact!) a number of my registered letters to you in America. Nothing to be done about it.

Now you must make every effort to establish communications with America. After all, you wrote to me that you received Internationales Flugblatt No. 1 in German in America and that you would try to publish it in English*! And now not a word about it?? What does this mean?! Is it possible that in America no sympathisers were found and it was impossible to publish Internationales Flugblatt in English???? Incredible!

But if this is nevertheless the case, it must be published in Norway (in English). Will you undertake the translation and how much will it cost to publish?

Then I wrote to you in America that I received from Boston, Mass., a leaflet of the "Socialist Propaganda League" (signed by 20 socialists with addresses, S. r. Massachusetts). This league is internationalist, with a programme clearly leaning to the left. I sent them a huge English letter (and Internationales Flugblatt in German). No answer. Did "noble" France confiscate it?

If you have not received and know nothing about them, I will send you their address and a copy of my letter. Will you undertake to forward it to America?

And the S. L. P.? They are internationalists (although with a narrow, sectarian taint). Did they receive Internationales Flugblatt? Do you have any connections with them??

A. Kollontai.

LENIN — LETTER TO A. KOLLONTAI.

Further. You wrote that you had begun negotiations with Charles Kerr. The result? He promised to print part of our pamphlet with Lenin and Zinoviev. And now you are silent about this... How is this to be understood?

Internationale Korrespondenz printed that the "New Review" in America had undertaken to print articles of the Zimmerwald Left. Is that true? Do you know the "New Review"?

Answer quickly and in more detail. About direct mail steamers from Norway to America, you will, of course, find out everything in the most thorough detail.

Regarding Höglund and the Norwegians, I have so far been unable to get any sense out of them: did they receive Internationales Flugblatt, did they publish it in Swedish and Norwegian, did they officially join the Zimmerwald Left (like the Rev. Soz. Verband of Roland-Holst)? Please, make inquiries, find out, insist, scold, compel, supervise! Let Bukharin inform you of what we wrote to him in a special letter about the Zimmerwald people, and you see to it that it is carried out.

Greetings! Your Lenin.

P.S. What interesting books and pamphlets did you bring? Schlüter's history of Chartism? And what else?

P.S. I am sending our "theses" (from Vorbote No. 2). Explain this to the Scandinavians.

[Postscript by N. K. Krupskaya.]

Warm greetings. N. K[rupskaya].

* This refers to the "International Leaflet"—"Internationales Flugblatt" No. 1, the publication of which was mentioned in letter No. 29.
