Dear L. B.! I received your letter today and ...* from the report on the Third Duma faction.

Thank you. I passed it on to Malinovsky today—he is here. He is leaving today...

A strange, most extraordinary business with Dan! He lives freely, attends the faction, is editor of *Luch*, etc.!! The Okhrana is conducting some sort of major game here!

We have had severe arrests. Koba has been taken. We spoke with Malinovsky about necessary measures. *Pravda* has a circulation of 30-32 thousand on weekdays and 40-42 thousand on holidays. There is universal wailing—there are no people. The Liquidators have a heap of intellectuals, while we lose everyone.

We decided "in principle" to abolish insert sheets and to publish weekly supplements to *Pravda* for a special fee of 4-8-12 pages (in place of *Zvezda*), it would be good if we could manage it—but there is such a shortage of people.

The Six lives very harmoniously—but complains that things are difficult...

All the "intelligentsia" is with the Liquidators. The working masses are with us (40 thousand for *Pravda* contra* 12 thousand for *Luch*), but the workers produce their own intelligentsia with great difficulty. Slowly and with difficulty.

Party affairs in Russia generally are clearly improving. Workers' circles, groups, and organizations are clearly growing and strengthening everywhere. Expanding. Both the Urals and the South and the Moscow region (especially). In the Caucasus there is improvement (latest news—arrests again)...

Unmistakable revival in social-democracy. Money has started coming in again (little by little).

News! There are signs of revival of revolutionary organizations in the military. But the tempo of the movement is somehow different, new.

We certainly noted Plekhanov in *Pravda*, didn't we? He sulked and... came back.

Oh, what a sulker he is! He helped Mayevsky (after I. 1912), then withdrew from him (VIII. 1912)—was thoroughly abused by him—now he is abusing him again!! Kiselev sent me a long letter reproaching me for the suppression of party Mensheviks, from whom—he says—I wrongly demand that they be "Leninists." What a fool! And Gr-ii thinks this is Plekhanov's "move"...

A novelty in the history of squabbling: K. Radek has put out a pamphlet: *"Meine Abrechnung"*** against Tyshka, having abused him severely. They promised to send it to you as well.
