No. 2.

...* Now (2 p.m.) an out-of-turn additional mail has been brought. Again, nothing from you...

* The beginning and end of the letter have not been found. Ed.

I received a letter from Bukharin in Vienna. He met with Buryanov, who was coming from Plekhanov. It seems that the Plekhanovites and other non-factionalists are planning to undertake some kind of joint "action": it appears that Plekhanov wants to publish a newspaper.

Trotsky and his crowd are about to release their journal "Borba" [Struggle] very soon. They have reconciled with "Luch" [Ray]; correspondence was conducted on this matter.

The "pure" liquidators will remain in "Nasha Zarya" [Our Dawn] - so "hopes" this crowd.

This is what Bukharin writes. These news are very important. There's no smoke without fire, and, probably, we are witnessing a new wave of idiotic reconciliation, which the MCB will certainly want to use for a farcical performance in the spirit of the plenum of I. 1910. Well, now we are on our own feet and will expose this scum.

We must do our utmost (of course, with the utmost tact) to gather and continue gathering all kinds of information in Paris. Fool Antonov doesn't know how to collect gossip from Steklov, while Steklov knows how to extract money from him. We, however, don't have a single penny, Kamenev with his family - they have nothing at all.
Therefore, make sure that the KZO does not give a single kopeck anywhere except to us. We will desperately need money soon for publishing the Central Organ, a special brochure, and one of the most important publications (absolument entre nous: we will publish a special bulletin of the Central Committee - for Russia we've got a special transport possibility*).

Reconcilers of all stripes are going to "catch" us! Bon!** we will catch these buffoons. Are they crawling into the swamp of blocs with the liquidators? Bon! Our tactic: if the enemy makes a wrong move, give them more time to sink deeper into the swamp. There we will cover these scoundrels. For now, therefore, we must accumulate strength and money, be restrained (very much so) - and gather more information. Paris is a convenient center for

gathering information and for "diversion." It would be best if the section adopted a resolution against Kautsky (calling his statement about the death of the party shameless, brazen, monstrous, and ignorant).
Individual "almost reconcilers" from our section should inform themselves from the Plekhanovites, reconcilers (Makar, Lva, Lozovsky & Co.), and the Trotskyists, as well as the Bundists and Latvians.

Raise the issue of a resolution against Kautsky in the KZO and vote: if the majority rejects it, I will come and thrash this majority so that they won't forget it until the next brooms. And I need to know who will make up such a majority, who is capable of what. So, go full steam ahead!

It is possible that N. V. will receive important messages for us (from the MCB or from the Latvians) at his address. It would be very important for him to immediately pass them on to you - you can open them to telegraph me a brief summary: if it's not awkward, arrange this, because just these days (while Malinovsky is here) a delay of a day or two (the difference between a letter and a telegram) could be extremely significant. I think you could refer to N. K., but, in any case, decide yourself, you know better.

Let the KZO consider who in Paris could help the six in preparing speeches.

There is a great need after the arrest of Krylenko. We will send a list of speeches. Here, the most convenient and possible help could come from all the wavering members of different factions.
