Dear Friend! Another letter arrived today from Petersburg — lately they write carefully from there.

Apart from Guchkov's letter, which goes into No. 57 of *Collected Works* (being set in type) and which Gregory probably showed you in Bern,411 we have received letters from Lvov and Chelnokovu, all about the same thing — about the fury in the country (against the traitors conducting negotiations about a separate peace) etc.

The mood, they write, is thoroughly revolutionary.

My manuscript on imperialism has reached Petersburg, and now they write today that the publisher (and this is Gorky! oh, you calf!) is dissatisfied with the harshness toward... whom do you suppose?.. Kau-sky! He wants to correspond with me!!! Both amusing and vexing.

There it is — my destiny. One combat campaign after another — against political stupidities, vulgarity, opportunism, etc.

This since 1893. And the hatred of vulgarizers because of it. Well, but I would still not exchange this destiny for "peace" with the vulgarizers.

Now there's Radek as well. In No. 6 of *Jugend-Internationale* (seen it?) an article Nota Bene. We immediately recognized (Gregory and I) Bukharin. I answered his egregious stupidities in No. 2 of the *Collection**.* (Haven't seen it? Coming out shortly.)

Today Gregory sends No. 25 of *Arbeiterpolitik*. There the same article (with cuts, clearly censorial) signed by Bukharin. (We also received another issue of *Novyi Mir* from New York, there is criticism — alas! alas! correct — and that's the rub, that a Menshevik is right against Bukharin!! — criticism, apparently, of the same article by Bukharin in *Novyi Mir* [which we don't have].)

And Radek — "Tyshka's methods," Gregory writes me today — publishes in No. 25 of *Arbeiterpolitik* praise for Bukharin ("youthful force") and a little note, in passing, about "three editors of *Kommunist*"!
