What is the matter? I very much request a response. Appoint correspondents for me in each volost, give them this letter of mine, let all of them respond to me.

TELEGRAM
TO THE COMMITTEES OF THE POOR IN YELETS UYEZD ON PROVIDING INFORMATION ABOUT GRAIN COLLECTION
Yelets. To all volost committees of the poor in Yelets Uyezd.
Circular.
September 17, 1918/*
I have received your telegrams.1
It is impossible to be content with general and vague expressions, which too often conceal complete failure in work. Weekly precise figures are necessary: first, which specific volosts, what exact part of the grain surplus they have collected and how much has been stored; second, exactly how many poods of grain have been stored in which specific elevators and storage barns.
Without such data, everything else is empty rhetoric. Respond more precisely.
Chairman of Sovnarkom, Lenin.
1 The telegrams from the committees of the poor were in response to Lenin's letter to S. P. Sereda (see the previous document).
