Dear Alexander! The conference has concluded, and its manifesto has been published (from May 1st) 280. I hope you are receiving the *Berner Tagwacht* — or another Swiss newspaper?

If not, drop me a line and we'll send you the French text.

Gregory is preparing a detailed letter about the conference, which will be sent to you.

In general, the manifesto was adopted — a step forward, since the French deputies (three of them, one of whom, Brizon, is a semi-chauvinist) 281 accepted it. A resolution with criticism of pacifism was adopted, and a resolution on the International Socialist Bureau with sharp criticism of it. In general, this is still, despite a host of shortcomings, a step toward a break with the social-patriots.

The Left was stronger this time: a Serb, three Swiss, one Frenchman (not a deputy; not from a group, but in his personal capacity) strengthened our Left. Then two Germans (from the "International" group) 282 went with us on the main points.

Have you seen Guésmde's manifesto? There's clearly a nasty "jab" at us in it! The *Volksfreund* (Braunschweig) answered him well 283.

Regarding the Japanese 284 we have decided to make one more, final attempt at an agreement, I hope: 1) all old agreements (oral) are annulled; 2) agreement between the editorial board of the Central Organ, which edits the issue, and the publishers from booklet to booklet, i.e., for each booklet separately; 3) to publish No. 3 in Berne (clearly impossible in Stockholm).

Try it — whether it will work or not. If not, we'll publish a "Collection of *Sotsial-Demokrata*."

We cannot wait.

Here is the plan for No. 3:

1) Materials from Russia (up to 3 sheets).

2) Theses of the Central Organ editorial board on self-determination.

3) Lenin's article on the same.

4) 2nd Zimmerwald Conference. G. Zinoviev or Lenin.

5) Bukharin: an economic topic.

6) Lyalin on the rise in prices.

7) Alexander — from Russia.

8) A Serb and an Italian have promised articles.

9) Russian topics — G. Zinoviev.

10) Radek — continuation (?? hardly worth it. In my view, no)*.

* In the manuscript this item is crossed out. V. I. Lenin had in mind the continuation of K. Radek's article "A Quarter Century of the Development of Imperialism," published in Nos. 1-2 of *Kommunist*. Ed.
