17/IV.

Comrade Sergo! I am sending you several more brief notes. They have been communicated to me by a doctor who was himself on the spot and deserves full confidence: Abastuman

* This refers to April 20. Ed.

** On the envelope of the letter, V. I. Lenin, in addition to the address "To Member of the Central Committee of the RCP, Comrade Ordzhonikidze (from Lenin)," wrote: "I request that [this letter be] sewn shut and sealed, and that a receipt be taken from Ordzhonikidze. 17/IV. Lenin."

is altogether unsuitable, because it resembles a "coffin"—a narrow basin; it is unsuitable for someone with nerves; there are no walks, except for climbing, and Nadezhda Konstantinovna cannot possibly climb. Borzhomi is very suitable, because there are walks on level ground, and this is necessary for Nadezhda Konstantinovna. Moreover, Borzhomi is at a suitable elevation; Abastuman, on the other hand, is at an excessive elevation—one cannot go above 1000 meters. Our doctor particularly warns against an early journey, as there will be cold and rain especially until mid-June. On this last point I am not so fearful, if the house does not leak and is heated, because under these conditions cold and rain are not dangerous.

I shake your hand. Your Lenin

P.S. It is understood that separate houses at a suitable elevation can be perfectly suitable in many and various places.
