TO THE EXPEDITION

11 VII [1921]
Comrade Smolianinov! I am very much afraid that Lezhava's optimism is unfounded.

Request facts, verify
Verify personally twice.
Then speak on direct line with
Chutskaev and Ivan Nikitich Smirnov. Without all this
I will not believe that the matter is SECURED.

Lenin.

1 In a note on the implementation of the NKVT agreement with a Swedish
concern regarding the import of various goods into Siberia,
intended for exchange with peasants, for 7 million rubles.
For the delivery of goods to the mouths of the Ob and Yenisei, an expedition was equipped,
known as the Kara Expedition. The anxiety was caused by
L. B. Krasin's intention
to terminate the contract with the Swedes and purchase goods
from the English, which would not only delay the expedition, but
could lead to the delivery of goods only to Arkhangelsk.
S. Chutskaev, Deputy Chairman of the Siberian Revolutionary Committee, in a report to the STO,
sent to Lenin, with a letter dated June 23, insisted on the implementation
of the first plan, which was implemented in the summer of 1921.
