I request that you send me:

1) A calendar programme of the work (not under the best conditions — if they give this and that — but under present circumstances); especially: when the work will be completed.

2) The distribution of work among the commission members.

3) The text and maps, when they are ready, before their submission to the press;

4) A conclusion on the question of whether it is desirable and possible (for what reasons — in the case of affirmative or negative answers to the questions) to attract Anuchin and Borzov to this work.*

5) A conclusion as to whether the commission members or its chairman would undertake to carry out the supplementary work mentioned in the enclosed copy of my letter to Pavlovich. Pavlovich declined. I commissioned one comrade in Germany, but have not yet received a reply. It would be good if the commission would do it.

Ch. Council of People's Commissars V. Ulyanov (Lenin).

* The edition of the Russian atlas reviewed by Lenin was undertaken by the first State Cartographic Institution (formerly Ilyin's). On April 24 Lenin became acquainted with a sample copy of the atlas, and on April 26 a Special Scientific Commission for the compilation of a geographical atlas was organized under the chairmanship of V. D. Kaisarov. Work on preparing the publication dragged on from 1921 to 1927, but the edition was never completed.

* Reference is to the "Plan for the Electrification of the RSFSR" (Introduction to the report to the Eighth Congress of Soviets of the State Commission for the Electrification of Russia, Gostechizdat, M., 1921).

* Reference is to the inclusion in the commission for compiling the atlas on imperialism of geographers D. N. Anuchin and A. A. Borzov, working in Moscow.
