LETTER TO P. A. ZALUTSKY and A. A. SOLTS
Source: LS/v36

Comrade Zalutsky and Comrade Solts, News has reached me of the expulsion from the Party of Nadezhda
Sergeyevna Alliluyeva. Personally, I observed her work as secretary
in the Administration of Affairs of the Council of People's Commissars, i.e., very closely.

I consider it necessary, however, to point out that I have known the entire Alliluyev
family, i.e., the father, mother, and two daughters, since the period before the
October Revolution. Specifically, during the July days, when Zinoviev and I had
to go into hiding and the danger was very great, it was this family that hid me, and
all four of them, enjoying the complete trust of the Bolshevik Party members of that time,
not only hid both of us but also provided a whole series of conspiratorial services,
without which we would not have been able to escape Kerensky's bloodhounds. It is very possible that, due to
the youth of Nadezhda Sergeyevna Alliluyeva, this circumstance remained
unknown to the commission. I also do not know whether the commission, when considering the case of
Nadezhda Sergeyevna Alliluyeva, had the opportunity to compare information about her
father, who worked in various capacities to assist the
Party long before the Revolution, providing, as
I
heard, serious services to illegal Bolsheviks under tsarism.
I consider it my duty to bring these circumstances to the attention of the Central
COMMISSION for Party Purge.
