E. A. LITKENS*

People’s Commissariat of Education, to Messrs. Lunacharsky, Pokrovsky, and Litkens

I request that you provide me with the briefest possible responses—no more than one or, at most, two pages in total—to certain questions, so that I may present the relevant sections of my report to the Congress of Soviets with greater precision and incorporate some of the most illustrative figures.

For my report to the Congress of Soviets, I ask that you furnish concise data that can vividly illustrate the growing enthusiasm for education and highlight certain achievements in this field during 1921—for example, the number of students, the number of reading clubs, the number of libraries, the number of university students, the number of technical educational institutions, and the like.

Chairman of the Council of People’s Commissars, Lenin
