Note by G.V.Chicherin

November 6, 1921.

Dear Vladimir Ilyich, I am sending you a letter from Sun Yat-sen, which includes, among other things, a greeting to you. He calls you his friend. Do you know him personally? As you may have seen from Janson's cipher1*, we are supposed to have intercourse with the Canton Government after we have had representation in Peking. Until then we have found it inconvenient even to write to Sun Yat-sen. When we wrote to him last year, the situation was different, for negotiations with Peking had not yet begun.

With Communist greetings

Georgy Chicherin.

Note by V.I.Lenin

Т. Chicherin! Not acquainted. We have never even written a word to each other.

In my opinion, it is necessary to be obliging in every possible way, to write more regularly and try to settle our man in Canton in secret. 7/XI

1G.V.Chicherin sent V.I.Lenin a letter from Sun Yat-sen dated August 28, 1921, in which the latter called Lenin "my friend" (see Sun Yat-sen's letter to Chicherin: Bolshevik, 1950, No. 19, pp. 46-48).

Lenin recalled the published correspondence on January 26, 1922 and asked Chicherin to provide details about it (see: Lenin V.I. Poln. sobr. op. cit., vol. 54, pp. 141-142).

The military commanders P.A. Pavlov and V.K. Blucher were sent to Canton.
