NOTE FROM E. A. PREOBRAZHENSKY
Send to Comrade Preobrazhensky *.
13/VIII [1921] Comrade Preobrazhensky! In my view, it should be published. If you agree, please submit it to Pravda; if not, return it with a few words of comment.
With kind regards, Lenin.
1 E. A. Preobrazhensky was a member of the Collegium of the People’s Commissariat for Finance.
2 We are referring to the theses submitted by one of the Narkomfin staff members on the policy of non-monetary accounting.

LETTER FROM N. N. KRESTINSKY
Copy to Comrade Preobrazhensky.
17/X/1921 Comrade Krestinsky!¹
I would like to know your opinion: is it not time to undertake calculations of two distinct kinds:
First, a plan—albeit the roughest and most general, serving as a first approximation—for the restoration of our currency. For example: under such-and-such conditions, over the course of so many years, by consistently implementing such-and-such measures, it might be possible to achieve so-and-so.
Do you (and the Financial Affairs Commission) consider such a calculation feasible, or is even an approximate estimate of this sort premature and impossible at present?
Second, is it not possible to convert our expenditure budget into gold terms and compare it—by major categories, and perhaps by individual departments—as well?
