KASHIRA POWER STATION
Construction of the Kashira power station began in 1919.
According to the GOELRO plan, it was assumed that the construction of a temporary station would be completed by the end of 1924, which should have provided 12,000
kW of electricity to supply the largest plants and factories
in Moscow. The power of the station, when fully expanded, was
planned at 420 thousand kW. The station is located on the banks of the Oka River, near the city of Kashira. Kashirstroi is the first station on
Moscow coal and one of the first constructions for the implementation
of the "Plan for the Electrification of the RSFSR". At the beginning of 1922, the
first stage of work was completed, and Kashira went into operation. Instead of the installed capacity of 12,000 kW, it
initially gave Moscow only 1500-1800 kW.
From 1928, further expansion of the Kashira Hydroelectric Station began.
By the tenth anniversary of the GOELRO plan, December 20, 1930, the
most powerful turbogenerator in the USSR, with a capacity of 50 thousand kW, began operating at Kashira. By the end of the third year of the five-year plan, the total capacity
of the Kashira Hydroelectric Station was brought up to 200 thousand kW.
Lenin followed the progress of the Kashirstroi works with the greatest attention (see Len. coll. XX, pp. 244-245). The documents published below
testify to his close and direct participation in the solution of all construction issues.
Some documents are printed from Lenin's manuscripts; the majority of the documents are printed from machine-made copies, and all these documents, apparently, were prepared
preliminarily by the Kashirstroi administration and then edited
by Lenin. Some of them bear Lenin's own signature.

NOTES ON THE RADIOTELEGRAM FROM B. S. STOMONYAKOV
FROM AUGUST 8.

[August 11, 1921]
The most important part of the material for the Kashira station, namely
insulators, are ordered and will be shipped at the end of August, excluding
a small part that will go in the first half of September.
The delivery time for all other materials is from three to four months,
since no plant can manufacture them sooner. The delivery time for electric locomotives
is about six months. We are doing everything possible to shorten all
delivery times. The whole matter is being handled at a rapid pace by Starkov1 and myself. August 5, 1921. Stomonyakov2. 2250
8/VIII + 4 months = 8.XII! And delivery! And installation?**

a review. What does this mean?
What's the launch date4 of the station that follows from this?

from the Kashira station for enterprises of the former Rogozhsko-Simonovsky district: "Automobile Plant named after I. V. Stalin", "Serp i Molot", "Dynamo", etc. Lenin's telephone message refers to the time
of preparation for the reception of electricity from Kashira.

Lenin to summon
V.
S.
Prozor to the upcoming August 25 congress (this request is set out by Tsyurupa in the P.S. on the "next", i.e., on the reverse side of the letter and underlined by Lenin). Apparently, the intention was to refer to the 3rd All-Russian Congress of Construction Workers,
which took place from August 28 to September 1, 1921 (see "Izvestia" 191-195, from August 30 to September 3, 1921).

for passenger traffic, it is necessary to extend the authorization
for the right to attach to local (suburban) passenger trains
the two heated wagons available to Kashirstroy under
Nos. 980848 and 603984. [1147]

To NKPS Comrade Fomin.
December 2, 1921
Materials shipped for Kashirstroy from Petrograd on November 11 and
23 have not yet arrived at the construction site, despite
my categorical order to expedite all materials for Kashira in the most urgent manner. This delay has
resulted in the impossibility of deploying work on the installation
of power transmission, which in turn has already affected the start-up
of the Kashira Station on time. I propose that you conduct a most thorough
investigation of the matter and give immediate instructions along the
Petrograd - Moscow - Kashira line with the suggestion that the following
wagon numbers: 771, 167, 590175, 612881, 171843, 468369, 465049,
655397, 69578, 288442 and 536297, be delivered to Kashira under the personal
receipt of the chief engineer or one of his deputies.
To increase the likelihood of execution of this order, appoint personally responsible persons within the NKPS. When
each of the aforementioned wagons passes through Khovrino and Mo
skva stations, telegraph the chief engineer of Kashirstroy Tsiurupa, at the address: Maly Cherkassky lane,
Kalyazinskoe podvorie, Kashirstroy about these wagons. Immediately inform Comrade Smolyaninov* of the measures taken and results.

In view of the extreme importance [and] continuity of the work of the Moscow

may adversely affect the work. [829]
