1 The commission on improving the living conditions of scientists, composed of: M. N. Pokrovsky, Ya. K. Gindin, P. I. Novitsky, A. B. Khalatov, N. A. Semashko, and V. I. Volgin, was appointed by the Council of People's Commissars on November 10, 1921. It was tasked with discussing the question of awarding the most outstanding and necessary for the Republic workers in the field of science.
